OMAR COMING YO

The blog game Jackie Chain is back like cooked crack baby. Actually probably not, but I might start using this blog to dust off my metaphorical AK of blawg gold from time to time, so if you see any long incoherent rambling posts which seem to accuse multiple prominent rap bloggers of rape, just remember to keep it moving cuz normal service will be resumed shortly.

Tony Thompson - Goodbye Eyes (1995)

“Rhythm-and-blues singer Tony Thompson, whose body was found near an air conditioning unit outside an East Waco apartment complex earlier this month, died accidentally while “huffing” Freon, an autopsy report released Friday shows.

Dr. Reade A. Quinton, a medical examiner at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, determined that Thompson, 31, died from “toxic effects of chlorodifluoromethane,” or inhaling a toxic amount of Freon.

Freon is a gas primarily used in refrigeration and air-conditioning units. Thompson, a Waco native and former lead singer for the platinum-selling Waco quintet Hi-Five in the 1990s, was found dead outside an apartment complex June 1.”

Shout out to my dude Rowan Martin for making music for guys who still rock turtlenecks with pastel coloured suits like Yacht rock never died.

Carla Thomas - Gee Whiz! (Look At His Eyes)

“Although this iconic single would eventually chart within the Top 10 on the pop chart and within the Top 5 on the R&B chart, it had an inauspicious beginning. Initially recorded at the Thomas family home, Rufus shopped the song to Vee-Jay Records in Chicago. Despite their interest, Vee-Jay never followed through or actively pursued securing the distribution rights. Because of his belief in the song’s potential, Rufus returned to Memphis and in the summer of 1960, Thomas would cut the teen love song that she penned when she was only 15 years old.”

Evie Sands - The Love Of A Boy (1966)

“In 1967, Evie recorded another Chip Taylor composition, “Angel Of The Morning,” for Cameo Records. In its first week of release, Evie’s single was already the most requested song on radio stations across the country. However, Cameo went bankrupt a week later, and was unable to get any copies to the stores.”

No one knows. I live her in Dayton Ohio and heard ALL the rumors. One rumour that was pretty much agreed upon is that Roger was getting ready to go solo. Business and artisically. He was the gravy train. I heard he was tired of doing the music and sharing the publishing with Larry. Plus he was riding high off California Love and enjoying his new popularity. He was in great demand and if he had been alive T-Pain wouldn’t stand a chance.

The Persians - Get A Hold Of Yourself (1963)
Download: Mediafire

“A very mysterious record which appears to be a one-off. Two of the writers (Bill Giant and Bernie Baum) also produced the record, and they are best known as the writers of Elvis’ “(You’re The) Devil In Disguise”. Being as the record was released on a Cameo-Parkway label offshoot, odds are it was recorded in New York. Other than a later 60’s male group called the Persians, I find no info about THESE Persians. I also question the date. Cameo-Parkway (just like Motown) more often than not had the wrong date on the label, although the notes to a label retrospective list 1963. As for the record, it’s a beautiful girl group sound with an ethereal lilt.”

Bobby Marchan - Meet Me In Church (1960)

“Bobby Marchan was a well-respected American rhythm and blues bandleader, MC, singer-performer, recording artist, and female impersonator.

In the 1990s his company Manicure Productions was involved in hip hop music booking and promotion including Take Fo’ Records bounce music artist DJ Jubilee. He was involved with the formation of Cash Money Records.

Nate Evans - Main Squeeze (1972)

“Nate Evans was a native of Gary, IN and spent the 60s there as an opening act for many of the touring acts that came to town. In 1972 he went to Chicago and recorded his own “Pardon My Innocent Heart” for Syl Johnson who was then working as both an artist and A & R man for Twinight records.”
